Emergency Response to Tornado Damage
In the fall of 2019, following the aftermath of a powerful storm, we received an urgent call from a distressed homeowner in the prestigious Preston Hollow neighborhood. A massive tornado had ripped through the area, leaving her home severely damaged, and with more rain forecasted for that very night, time was of the essence.
Understanding the urgency, our team mobilized immediately to secure her roof and prevent further water intrusion. It was a true test of our rapid response and dedication, and we were proud to be there when she needed us most.
Assessing the Damage
Upon arriving at the scene, I was immediately struck by the devastation. The house was in critical condition, its single-car garage had been completely reduced to rubble, and the second-floor roof was violently torn away by the relentless winds. Inside, furniture, clothing, and cherished belongings were fully exposed to the elements, vulnerable under the open sky. It was a race against time, and we knew we had to act fast to prevent further destruction and protect what remained.
Securing the Property
Despite downed trees obstructing roads and police directing traffic throughout the neighborhood, it took us nearly three hours to finally reach the home. The moment we arrived, my roofing crew sprang into action, working swiftly to tarp the exposed roof and shield the interior from the incoming rain.
Only after the home was secured did we begin the extensive cleanup process, which spanned an entire week. We did all of this before the homeowner had even committed to any repairs or services. Our priority was simple: to help her stay safe, dry, and protected in the face of overwhelming loss.
Coordinating with Insurance and Rebuilding
In the following weeks, we collaborated closely with insurance adjusters to assess the damage, document the claim, and finalize the project scope. After careful negotiations and pricing, we received the green light to begin repairs and reconstruction.
The full restoration took four months from start to finish—and the transformation was nothing short of remarkable. Today, the home stands fully rebuilt and beautifully restored, with no trace of the destruction it once faced. To look at it now, you’d never know a tornado had torn through just months before.
Comprehensive Repairs and Upgrades
The restoration project required a full remodel of the entire upstairs, which had been stripped down to the studs. This included rebuilding two bathrooms, a spacious game room, and three bedrooms from the ground up.
Downstairs, we replaced all the flooring, installed brand-new drywall, and upgraded the HVAC system by replacing every AC unit. The exterior also received a complete overhaul, including a brand-new roof and six newly installed skylights, bringing in natural light and restoring both comfort and style to the home.
Rebuilding the Garage and Structural Repairs
Beyond the interior work, we also reconstructed the entire single-car garage, which had been almost completely destroyed by the storm. In addition, a portion of the home’s structure had to be reframed where the tornado had torn it apart.
One of the most challenging aspects was the rebricking process. Finding and matching the original brick required precision and patience, but the effort paid off. The final result was seamless; you’d be hard-pressed to spot where the original brick ends and the new begins. The exterior now stands as a flawless blend of restoration and craftsmanship.
Electrical Work and Structural Inspections
Because the home’s entire power supply was housed in the single-car garage—which had been completely destroyed—we had to rewire the entire property back to the main electrical panel. Given the complexity and scale of the project, I brought in a well-respected engineering firm to conduct a comprehensive structural inspection.
Although these extra measures weren’t required by the city or mandated by the insurance provider, they were important to me. I wanted to ensure the homeowner had complete confidence in the safety, integrity, and longevity of their rebuilt home.
